  1. Hi, maybe you can post a request on yogafinder.com. Good luck! I’d like to find out if there are any yoga classes in the Bacolod area.

Jane: Hi, Dizzy. Thanks for stopping by. Yes, I have gone to yogafinder.com but did not seem to see one based in Bacolod. Let me try to ask around here in Manila. Am sure someone would know if there is a yoga studio in your area.

  3. Hi! I tried bikram yoga a few weeks back. Half way thru the session I there was a tingling feeling on my back. the next day I could not get up because i had a terrible headache. What caused this headache? thanks!

Jane: Hi Millie! First of all, I am sorry to hear about your experience. There are so many things that could have caused it and I would not even try to hazard a guess as I do not know your actual situation (like your age, health condition, yoga experience, etc). And what I am about to tell you should not be taken as gospel truth either.

First, you could try to talk to your bikram yoga teacher, explain what happened and see if he/she has an explanation for it that makes sense to you. I have read introductions in some bikram yoga studios that say feeling faint is often experienced by beginners precisely because the body is only just starting to detox itself from years of toxins taken in. Whether that is true or not and whether the headache is your body’s reaction to detoxification, I do not know.

Second, it is possible that bikram yoga is not for everyone and you need to find out if that is the type of yoga for you. I choose to stay with hatha vinyasa yoga which is the style taught by my teacher Pio. I have a small build, need to gain weight (a lot of weight!) and live in a tropical country. I cannot imagine myself starting off with a heated room when my body already naturally builds up heat even in room temp when I do vinyasa yoga. I do not need to lose all those calories from sweating out in a heated room. But that is me. It is different for others and I have friends doing bikram who swear by it.

So in the end, I may have no answer for you but you need to seek it out yourself. But do not give up on yoga because oftentimes, perseverance despite initial discomfort (or even pain) will be replaced by benefits which I experience up to now. I hope you find a yoga style that will be just right for you. And do update me on it too. Good luck and namaste!

    • Hi..jane..but i would like to comment on willie’s experience about bikram yoga. First of all,you should have a trained master who will guide all the way. Not all masters are well-trained to do that thing. We must also note that Yoga is considered to be an exercise nowadays, but in history, yoga is building a connection between you and the universe.
All kinds of yoga are correlated with each other with different poses to choose from. We must all take into consideration that too much meditation could open your inner self into wider arrays..once you open the so-called “kundalini”, you have to take care of it. Try to research on kundali syndrome to know what I’m talking about. Since bikram yoga is powerful cuz you are opening up the fire core in you. In this generation, its hard to find someone who are really practicng yoga by faith. So be wary of it. If you have those symptoms, do not go to medical practitioner cuz they have a different approach on that thing. You should seek a real master by faith so he could give you advices and heals you too.

  6. Hello Jane. I am very much interested to learn about yoga could you help me where can I look for school who offer the cheapest rate and also located near alabang? In addition to that I gave birth last July 2006 C-section pwede ba akong mag yoga?

Im looking forward for your reply.

Have a nice day and God bless.

    Juvy

    Jane:
Hi Juvy. It is always advisable to seek your OB-Gyne’s advice but considering you had the C-section over a year ago makes yoga feasible, I would think. I suggest you refer to the studios listed in this blog for those available near Alabang, check their websites and give them a call. Good luck!

Jane: Hi there Jami. Unfortunately, I have no knowledge of a yoga studio around the University belt but you may wish to ask within your school as there are some schools that offer yoga as part of PE classes. However, if you live in the Quezon City, Pasig or Makati areas, there are some located there. Feel free to contact me again if I can be of further help!

  10. Hi Jane!
I am so happy to find such an informative website on Yogalife in Manila! I was even more excited when looking through your instructors that I was listed as a “New addition!”

    Thank you for including me!

On another note, I’ve been searching the net for a couple of hours. I’m looking for someone who teaches Kundalini Yoga here in Manila.

I’m also on the look out for an Ayurveda Practioner who would have experience with Chakra healings or balancing.

Any ideas on where to find these types of people who can help me on my journey?

Thanks and keep up the great work!

    Namaste
    Michelle

Jane: Hi Michelle! Thank you for visiting!

I have asked some friends about Kundalini Yoga and it does not seem like there is anyone teaching this yet in the Philippines. I could be wrong though.

As for the Ayurveda practitioner, I am asking around. A friend who is into chakra healing is in the US but coming back April. I will email you on developments privately. Hope we can stay in touch!

    Namaste. :-)

  11. Hi,
Just wanna ask if you happen to know if there are any yoga studios in Davao. Thanks.

Jane: You know, Alex, that is the reason Mindanao isn’t on my list — yet. I can’t seem to find yoga shalas based in Davao or anywhere in Mindanao. I hope anyone from there reading this who has knowledge of actual yoga studios (not gyms) will post a comment here with a URL, if any.

  12. Thank you for your reply! I will regularly check this site. I hope someone posts a yoga studio in Davao. I’m actually in Manila but thinking of relocating in Davao.

Jane: Hmmm interesting, Alex! Years ago, it was my family that relocated from Davao to Manila! But do keep checking here in case I come across any shalas that are put up there. Come to think of it, could this be the sign for some friends who are thinking along the same line of thought??? Calling, calling Jon and Chona!

  13. Jane,

My friend Fritz will be relocating in Davao next month. He’s originally from Davao but studied in Manila and worked in Cebu.

He might offer some classes there. I’ll keep you posted when he does.

Fritz was also a member of Team Yoga 2002. He trained with Bela Lipat and received his 200-hour teaching certificate from Fitness First Malaysia.

Jane: Gosh, answered prayers so soon! Thanks for the heads up, Jon! And I hope Alex sees this post so we will both be on the lookout for Fritz’ classes.

  15. Hi Jane,

Your blog’s fabulous, it’s so informative! Well done! :)

I was hoping you could help me – I used to do yoga in 2001-2002, and I think it was mostly ashtanga yoga. The studio was initially in Pasay then they moved to Makati (on Pasay Road, across Park Square). Around 2004 I think they relocated to San Antonio Village but I haven’t been there, and I checked their website but it hasn’t been updated in years and there’s no schedule of classes.

I understand there’s a number of studios offering ashtanga yoga, but I prefer to go to one that doesn’t look like a dance hall or a gym room, if you know what I mean. The studios I used to go to looked really homey and had great ambience for yoga – is there anything like that in Metro Manila these days?

I moved to Melbourne over three years ago so I have no clue – I’ll be in Manila for two weeks next month and would love to attend yoga classes while I’m there. To give you an idea what the studio I used to go to looked like, please check out Ashtanga Yoga Centre of Melbourne’s website, http://www.ashtangamelbourne.com.au/contact.html (I’m in no way connected with them, and from what I remember the studio on Pasay Road looked much better). I could send you the url of the studio I used to go to, in case you’re familiar with them.

I’d greatly appreciate your help! Hope to hear from you soon!

    Thanks muchly!

    Namaste,

    Ivy Rose

Jane: Hi Ivy. Looks like you are in the Makati area. Well, Yoga Manila just moved from their long-time studio in Makati to another one across the street which, from pictures, may be what you are looking for. I have not checked out their new place yet. They are sharing this space with the foundation that teaches tai chi and qigong and the place looks new, clean and great for meditation as well.
    Here is the link: GoodQiCircle
You can click on another link to go to Yoga class schedules.
    Hope this helps.

  19. hello jane. it nice to find someone as passionate with yoga as i am. i used to dance, and since i couldn’t find a good dance teacher at this point ( everyone seems to be in hongkong disneyland ), yoga seemed the next logical outlet for me. yoga, i am proud to say, is my new passion.

anyway, there is a new bikram yoga studio ( by new player Joy Geronca ) in Eastwood City. Bikram Yoga Eastwood is located at the ground level of One Orchard Road Condominium in Eastwood City ( near the church ). you may get in touch with them at 972-1838

i love their studio, it is very intimate, very clean with high ceiling for a change, and they have very good teachers
as well ( hello betty, ginger and of course joy! )

i wish you could include Bikram Yoga Eastwood in your list.

thanks jane. will look forward to your blogs, thanks.

  22. Dear Jane,

I’ve just started Yoga in Ananda Marga Yoga Center in Capitol Area, Cebu City this week. The past two sessions were very nice and educational and now I’m really happy with Yoga. I actually do it in conjunction with my jogging/running.

I got a problem though… The course I’m going through is Ashtanga (prolly spelled wrong) Yoga. A Yogi is even there, unfortunately, I feel so limited in the time. Beginner’s class is only twice a week, to add to that… Yoga One Studio near my place has closed down. Do you know anyone from Cebu who could provide private lessons?

It would be very helpful if I have private lessons since I’m pretty busy most of the time plus I love having personalized instruction. :)

    I hope you can help

Jane: Hi. Unfortunately, I don’t know anyone in your area at present. But I will try to make inquiries and let you know if there is one closer. The closest to Antipolo right now would be Vinyasa Yoga Center in Ortigas (Emerald Ave.) and Yoga Manila at Chi Spa at EDSA Shangri-la Hotel.

3 days ago, I was able to join, for the first time, the only yoga class our gym offers. I wanted to pursue yoga and bought a book to practice at home. But I was advised that I should join classes ea early as possible for correct posture. I am now trying to find a yoga studio in Makati or in Malate, Manila with affordable rates and flexible schedule. Bikram Yoga and Iyengar and YogaManila are a bit expensive for my budget and their schedules dont fit mine.

    Help please!
